Bill VE7WYC<p>Playing around with <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/APRS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>APRS</span></a> using <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/VARAHF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VARAHF</span></a> as a software modem. Getting stations more than 1700 km away and getting into the APRS-IS system via VE7EPT-5 that is over 300 km away. Using less than 30 watts. PinPoint APRS is the software and there are options to use RF only or internet if you want. Image shows stations received while listening on 7083.5 kHz in a few minutes. Lots more to learn.</p>
NH6SP<p>So here&#39;s the answer:</p><p>Install <a href="https://github.com/Hamlib/Hamlib/releases/download/4.5.5/hamlib-w64-4.5.5.exe" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/Hamlib/Hamlib/relea</span><span class="invisible">ses/download/4.5.5/hamlib-w64-4.5.5.exe</span></a>, create a .bat file:</p><p>cd \Program Files\hamlib-w64-4.5.5\bin\<br />cmd /k &quot;rigctld -m 3073 -r COM7 -s 115200 -T &lt;your machine&#39;s IP address&gt; -t 4532 -vvvvvvvv&quot;</p><p>-m 3073 is the id for the IC-7300.</p><p>Run the .bat script, and in <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/RadioMail" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RadioMail</span></a>, enable &quot;Radio Control&quot; under Settings/VARA HF Modem.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/hamlib" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hamlib</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/rigctl" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rigctl</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/rigctld" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>rigctld</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/varahf" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>varahf</span></a></p>
NH6SP<p>Does anyone have experience using <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/RadioMail" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RadioMail</span></a> with <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/VARAHF" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>VARAHF</span></a> ?</p><p>RadioMail successfully connects to the VARA softmodem running on my WIndows 10 laptop, and it does try to connect to a VARA station, but does not attempt to set the frequency or a PTT.</p><p>When using <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/Winlink" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Winlink</span></a> plus VARA HF using the same VARA softmodem, I don&#39;t have any issues in that regard; frequency change and PTT to transmit is done.</p><p>RadioMail does work without an issue when connecting to a HT via <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/Mobilinkd" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Mobilinkd</span></a> TNC4.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/hamradio" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hamradio</span></a></p>
PE1PUX<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://digitalcourage.social/@rhaen" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>rhaen</span></a></span> I was under the impression that you had <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Ardop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ardop</span></a> running in Wine on your Mac based on your screenshots. Doesn’t Ardop work in wine? <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/VaraHF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VaraHF</span></a> seems impossible to get running on a ARM based Mac, at least I had no succes. I also ran into the limited rig support issue of <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Winlink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Winlink</span></a>. The Pat/Ardop setup is still on my todo list to try.</p>
